If you have limited mobility, scooters are one of the best mobility devices to travel. They embody safety, ease, and independence. At Next Day Access, we offer 3-wheel and 4-wheel motorized scooters. Try to think about your lifestyle when deciding which scooter will best fit your unique needs.

One of the biggest differences between the 3-wheel and 4-wheel is its outdoor and indoor use. Four-wheel scooters work better when crossing over rugged terrain, while 3-wheel is better for maneuvering tight and smaller spaces. However, besides those, here are some other things to consider when in the market

3-Wheel Scooters
Go Go Elite Traveler 3 Wheel Red Pride
Pride Go Go Elite Traveler 3 Wheel
  • Primarily for indoor use. While it can withstand the outdoors, navigating over rough terrain isn’t as smooth as the 4-wheel scooter.
  • Maneuverability and tighter turning radius, which is handy for small spaces and indoors.
  • Offers more legroom for users who are taller
  • Lighter in weight and portable.
4-Wheel Scooters
ZT 10 Right Beauty RED 1
Pride Zero Turn 10 4 Wheel
  • More stable, sturdier, and wide wheelbase. The size comes in handy for people who need more durability from their scooter.
  • Offer greater balance when it comes to crossing varied terrain.
  • The design of the scooters allows for better weight distribution, resulting in a more comfortable ride.
  • Slightly more expensive than a 3-wheel scooter.

It’s important to take the features into consideration when choosing a mobility scooter to ensure you get the one that fits your lifestyle. Our accessibility experts can help you decide which scooter is best for you. Contact us for a free in-home safety consultation.

One of the biggest priorities of caregivers and family members is keeping our loved ones safe and healthy. When it comes to caregiving aids, Next Day Access understands even the simplest product has a difference in comfort, safety, and independence. Transfer poles are only one of many solutions designed to make life easier for both individuals.

What are transfer poles?

A transfer pole is a floor-to-ceiling grab bar. They provide safe and secure support for sitting, standing, or transferring a loved one to their mobility device. It can reduce slipping or falling in the bathroom, bedroom, or even the living room.

Types of transfer poles

If you have trouble deciding which transfer pole will best accommodate your loved one or patient, our accessibility experts can help you choose. Here are some of the options we offer:

Stander Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar

The Stander Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar is a 2-in-1 safety solution combined with a transfer pole and a rotating grab bar. The grab bar has a 360 degrees rotation with a lock feature in eight different spots every 45 degrees. And no worrying about drilling holes in your ceiling because it is tension mounted. It secures in place by tightening the pole between the floor and ceiling.

HealthCraft SuperPole

We also offer the Healthcraft SuperPole. Designed like the security pole, it helps with standing, transferring, or moving in bed. However, the installation is different. The bottom of the pole has a jackscrew, which turns to create pressure between the ceiling and floor.

HealthCraft SuperPole with SuperBar

HealthCraft also offers the SuperPole with SuperBar. It is the same as the SuperPole but with an attached horizontal bar. It provides more stability and support for those who need more assistance anywhere in the home. Both the pole and bar have foam grips to make it more comfortable and prevent slippages on the hands.

Whichever pole you decide, it will make a difference in your and your patient’s life. The transfer pole creates a safer and more independent lifestyle for both of you. Let Next Day Access help you guide your decision. Contact us for a free in-home safety consultation.

Falling from the bed is one occurrence that could result in severe injury. Some of the causes occur when they’re asleep, usually from rolling around or while trying to get out of bed. But with bed rails, you can reduce falling.

What are bed rails?

Bed rails provide balance and stability in the comfort of your bedroom. They are used to assist while getting in and out of bed, help the user reposition themself while in bed, and prevent loved ones from rolling out of bed during the night. There are many different types of bed rails that can support you in the comfort of your bedroom.

The EZ Adjust Bed Rail is intended to reduce the risk of falling out of bed during the night. But its versatile and functional design, functions as a bed rail and handle. The rail extends p to 42 inches and can easily fold down to be out of the way, to prevent inaccessibility. This solution is typically made for long term use and ideal for those with limited mobility or a loss of balance. The rail includes an organizer pouch that’s perfect for keeping personal items close by.

PT BedCane

Unlike the length of the bed rail, the PT BedCane is smaller in design. It is an ergonomic handle that is used to assist from a bed to a walker, scooter, wheelchair, etc. The handle adjusts up to 25 inches to fit the height of your mattress. And similar to the bed rail, the handle comes with an organizer pouch, allowing to store small items like your phone.

Bed Rail Advantage Traveler

Disability Day is on diciembre 3 by the International Day of People with Disabilities, dedicated to bringing awareness and compassion for the challenges faced by people with disabilities. The theme for this year is leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID- 19 world. With this goal, they hope to recognize the challenges, barriers, and opportunities for people with a disability.

Since marzo 2020, when COVID-19 began, many people were affected by drastic changes, such as working and primarily staying at home, being away from our loved ones, and masks. However, those with disabilities had several negative repercussions from COVID-19. Their social isolation was more pronounced, and there was a lack of emergency equipment to help individuals with specific needs.

Why Do We Celebrate Disability Day?

According to the United Nations, the first annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons began in 1992. Since then, the day is celebrated to help create change and bring awareness for people with disabilities.

Themes from Previous Years:

Since 1992, there have been several different celebrated themes. Some include:

  • 2014: Sustainable development – the promise of technology
  • 2012: Removing Barriers, open doors for an inclusive society and development for all
  • 2007: Decent work for people with disabilities.
  • 2002: Independent living and sustainable livelihoods
  • 1998: Arts, culture, and independent living

As seen above, some of the themes are about independent living. And at Next Day Access, we offer products and solutions to help aging loved ones and people with disabilities live independently at home for as long as possible. We offer accessibility and mobility solutions to keep your home safe. Contact us to schedule a free in-home consultation.

One in four seniors fall each year, and out of every five falls, one results in serious injuries, such as broken bones or brain injuries. The statistics are scary, but falls can be prevented with the right equipment installed throughout the home.

The CDC recommends installing grab bars in every bathroom of a home with loved ones choosing to age in place. They are often placed next to the toilet, sink, and inside and outside the tub or shower. Because bathroom floors can become slippery, by holding on to the bar, it can create a safer space. However, grab bars are not only installed in bathrooms but other places throughout the home.

What is a Grab Bar?

It’s graspable bar installed on the wall that helps maintain balance and lessen fatigue while standing. They help prevent injury for aging loved ones, people with a temporary or permanent injury, and others.

Where to Install Grab Bars?

As we mentioned, grab bars are essential for bathrooms, but it is also helpful to have them installed throughout your home. These days you do not have to worry about giving up style. You can find sleek, stylish designs that blend in with your home. Wherever you are wanting a grab bar, contact an accessibility expert to safely do the job.

How to Choose the Right Grab Bars?

When you are choosing grab bars for your loved one’s home, there are various design options, including:

  • Straight are usually installed horizontally but can also be vertically or diagonally.
  • Folding can be folded away to provide extra space when not in use.
  • Ceiling to floor is tension mounted and makes it easier to stand from your toilet, bed, or couch.

It is not always easy deciding which grab bars will best accommodate you or your loved one. That’s why at Next Day Access, we offer free in-home consultations for our customers. With our evaluations, we can help you understand which solution will benefit you the most. We also offer installations from our accessibility technicians. Remodeling your bathroom when a loved one becomes dependent on a wheelchair for mobility isn’t always an option. This is why we offer Fawssit portable showers for our customers. After a long day, a shower is a perfect way to relax and unwind. However, when you suffer from a disability or injury, showering can become difficult and dangerous. The shower is designed to help people using a wheelchair get in and out of the shower with ease.

How the Fawssit Portable Shower Works

The showers come assembled, so no tools or construction is required. The only two things you need are access to an electrical outlet and a sink. The unit is set up within 15 feet of a sink (if a longer distance is needed, you can contact the manufacturer, and they can make hoses to fit your home up to 30 feet). The sides of the shower fold open and secure with velcro straps. The unit comes with a vinyl drain pan that sits on the bottom. The front opens, so the wheelchair user enters and exits the unit. Attach the shower head to the sink faucet, plug the pump into a 3-prong outlet, and voila, you have a portable shower!

Once done showering, there is no need to wait for the pan to drain. The pan is designed to keep water from leaking when the wheelchair user exits. When the individual is done showering, turn off the pump, dry the water off from the curtain and pan, then fold the unit to be stored away until its next usage.

Variety of Models

There are a variety of Fawsitt Portable Showers. The Standard showers fit 220 lbs. And the Bariatric model can accommodate up to 400 lbs. There are also models for a reclining wheelchair or extra space for a caregiver aiding with bathing. When you are deciding which model will best fit your needs, our accessibility experts at Next Day Access store can help you.

When looking for a mobility device to fit your lifestyle and mobility, there are a couple of different options. Whether it’s for a permanent or temporary use, there are options to help you get around and ride independently. The most popular devices are a power wheelchair or a mobility scooter. The main difference between the two devices is the operation and mobility use. However, understanding what makes the devices unique will help you make the best decision.

Power Wheelchairs

Power wheelchairs help people with limited strength and stamina to travel distances independently. With a simple control of the joystick, these devices are great for indoors and outdoors. They offer enhanced performance over varied terrains and outstanding maneuverability, making turning corners easy. And no worries about fitting through the halls and door frames of your home because their design makes it accessible. Power wheelchairs utilize various features and styles, such as convenient storage options, portability, or elevated seating.

Mobility Scooters

As mentioned before, the main difference between power wheelchairs and mobility scooters is the operation. Users control the scooter with a tiller and handlebars. Unlike a power wheelchair, users use a joystick. Depending on your range of mobility will help you decide which device is best for you.

Some features scooters offer are three-wheel or four-wheel, outdoor and indoor use and speed. A three-wheel scooter typically has a sharper turning radius and more legroom. These scooters are more optimal for indoor surfaces. Four-wheel scooters are broader and better suited for outdoor use.

Work With Accessibility Experts to Help You Decide

Overall, your mobility is the deciding factor when choosing between the devices. But once you know which device, there are many different features, designs, and styles to consider before making a purchase. As a mobility device user, one of your main concerns may be how to transport your wheelchair or scooter. With a vehicle lift, traveling with your mobility device can make the journey easier. Vehicle lifts are designed to safely transport an electric wheelchair, scooter, or manual wheelchair on or in your vehicle. At Next Day Access, we feature a variety of vehicle lifts that can accommodate your car, truck, etc. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a vehicle lift:

Types of Vehicle Lifts

The most common types of lifts are inside, outside, or hybrid.

  • Inside lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area with a hoist mechanism that swings outside the vehicle to load and lift the mobility device into the vehicle.
  • Outside lifts attach to the vehicle with a hitch and consists of an actuator and platform, which secures and carries the mobility device on the back of the vehicle.
  • Hybrid Lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area. These are designed to move out and down so the mobility device can load onto the platform on the ground. It is then lifted automatically into the vehicle for transport.

Vehicle Lift Compatibility

Before choosing the lift for your wheelchair or mobility scooter, it’s important to know your vehicle’s make and model. While you can buy a lift for just about any type of vehicle, it’s not a one-size-fits-all type of purchase. Knowing the make and model of your mobility device will help determine which lift will work.

Weight Capacity Considerations

It’s essential to know the weight of your mobility device, when looking for a vehicle lift. Your accessibility expert can help you choose a lift that will handle the weight of your device.

There are many things to consider when choosing a vehicle lift. At Next Day Access, our accessibility experts can work with you to provide the most appropriate lift for your vehicle. When you share with our experts your specific needs, they will ensure that you get the perfect vehicle lift. Contact us today for a free in-home safety evaluation.
