This month, we’d like to highlight the journey of Matthew Boncada, Next Day Access San Antonio’s very own. 

Matthew joined the Next Day Access San Antonio team in September 2022, ready to assist the existing technician and embark on a new adventure in San Antonio. He packed up his belongings, his dog Harley and drove solo from Salt Lake City to San Antonio. Little did he know that his adventure would take an unexpected turn on his very first day. As fate would have it, the existing technician left the company abruptly, leaving Matthew as their newest and sole technician.

What followed was an astonishing 11-month transformation that showcased Matthew’s dedication and resilience. He not only learned a myriad of skills but also gained profound product knowledge across their entire range. Matthew’s relentless pursuit of knowledge and improvement turned him into not just a technician but also a leader.

Today, Matthew leads a team of three employees, passing on his wealth of knowledge and skills to them on a daily basis. His rapid ascent from a solo technician to a team leader is a testament to his hard work and commitment. We applaud Matthew for the tremendous effort he has put into reaching the level he’s at now.

As we move forward, we’re excited to witness the continued growth of Matthew and the entire team. Matthew’s journey is a reminder that adaptability, determination, and a thirst for knowledge are the keys to success. Next Day Access Continues to Grow in Texas: New Location in Central Dallas is Now Open

Dallas, Texas, September 12, 2023: Next Day Access is pleased to announce its new location in Dallas, Texas. This is the fourth development in Texas. The Next Day Access Central Dallas franchise, a provider of residential and commercial accessibility and mobility products, is owned by Dave and Phairat Rice.

“We are excited to open our doors and begin providing customers with accessibility solutions,” said Dave Rice, Owner/CEO. “With being in such a niche industry, not many people know the type of products that exist to help them age safely in their homes or who to call, so we are proud to be a resource for our customers in the Dallas market.”

Dave is an experienced business leader with over 20 years with companies that include PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, and Miller Brewing. Dave also has experience in construction, restoration and rehabilitation of apartments and homes. Phairat first moved from Thailand to Dallas in 2007, where she has been raising their two children. Her professional experience includes computer manufacturing, accounting, and light construction.

After spending many years helping major corporations expand their operations all over the world, Dave is looking to begin the next phase of his career, empowering the aging population and people with disabilities to live a more active and independent life without leaving the community they love the most.

The Extra Mile

Matthew’s dedication doesn’t stop at installing equipment. He goes the extra mile to ensure our customers, especially veterans, receive the support they need. He often finds himself on hold with tech support for hours, tirelessly troubleshooting problems until they are resolved. Matthew doesn’t mind staying late, even when a customer pulls in with a damaged vehicle lift at 5 pm, or helping with quotes well into the evening. He works Saturdays, even in the snow, demonstrating an unmatched commitment to our customers’ safety and well-being.

Customer Story

A story that stands out as a true testament to Matthew’s dedication is when he responded to a customer’s call about a continuously beeping stair lift late in the evening. The customer was at their wit’s end, unable to bear the noise. Matthew raced to their aid, only to discover that the issue was caused by a constantly beeping smoke detector due to low batteries. Without hesitation, he changed the batteries in the smoke detector, putting an end to the beeping and ensuring the customer’s peace of mind.

We are incredibly fortunate to have Matthew as a part of the Next Day Access brand. His commitment to the business, customers, and mission is unwavering. He is a true example of excellence, and his ability to handle the chaos that sometimes accompanies our line of work is commendable.

The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments’ Area Agency on Aging awards Next Day Access Colorado Springs funding to purchase automated external defibrillators.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, UNITED STATES, July 14, 2023 — The Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments’ Area Agency on Aging (PPACG-AAA) awards Next Day Access Colorado Springs funding to purchase automated external defibrillators.

The PPACG-AAA funds allowed Next Day Access Colorado Springs to purchase AEDs for their staff to have available in their offices and in their vehicles when traveling. Employees are First Aid and CPR certified and can provide peace of mind for those at a higher rate of sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, or heart attack, possibly saving lives.

Many of whom Next Day Access Colorado Springs serve customers at an older age or have limited mobility. They sell and install wheelchair ramps, grab bars, stair lifts, walk-in showers, and more, all of which help individuals stay safe and independent in their homes.

“Next Day Access has been an ongoing partner funded by the Pikes Peak Area Agency on Aging through the Older Americans Act funding,” said Jody Barker, Director of PPACG-AAA. “The Next Day Access team knows the community’s needs and continues to do a nice job serving older adults, and our Regional Advisory Council acknowledges this through the continued funding of their services.”

“We are in the business of helping people, specifically people with health complications,” said David Beiner, CEO of Next Day Access Colorado Springs. “If we can offer another way to provide safety, we want to be able to do so. The technicians, office staff, and myself are equipped with the AEDs, whether on the road or at the office.”

Before Next Day Access, Varghese owned and operated his own successful business for over five years and was responsible for sales, marketing, and operations. This included end-to-end management of the supply chain, sales activities, services, and support. 

Varghese began his search for a new opportunity in the fall of 2021 and came across Next Day Access. His interest sparked as he learned more about the brand and the aging-in-place industry.

Almakhamreh moved to the United States from Jordan in 2016. Since living in the Oak Brook area, he opened an LLC consulting for foreign services. While in Jordan, Almakhamreh practiced law and prior to that was a supervisor for a dealer universal vehicle company. He also served in the Jordan military for seven years. 

With the desire of wanting to start something new and challenging, Almakhamreh connected with a franchise agent and discovered Next Day Access. After learning more about the brand’s mission and meeting the staff, he felt Next Day Access is the right fit.

Did you know that most American adults own an average of at least 300,000 items? Also, one out of ten Americans have an off-site storage rental for their excess belongings, according to Joshua Becker, who wrote: “21 Surprising Statistics That Reveal How Much Stuff We Actually Own, Becoming Minimalist.” 

Over their lifetimes, aging adults will accumulate several items over the years that could now be cluttering the home. Too much stuff in the home can make it hard to move around, which can be especially dangerous for aging adults.

Living in a cluttered space can also make us feel more anxious or depressed. Here are some decluttering tips for aging adults in your loved one’s home, so they feel safer and more comfortable at home. 

Declutter One Room at a Time 

Decluttering can feel overwhelming if you do not limit yourself to one room at a time. To begin, it might be helpful to declutter the room with the greatest number of possessions. Starting here could help your aging loved one not feel overwhelmed with the process.

For some aging adults, it became ingrained in them not to throw things away that “could” be valuable. You may know the item is not and will not be, but perhaps they are no longer savvy about what sells. Also, many aging adults have inherited many things that they are sentimentally attached to.

For these items, you could try to figure out clever storage ideas. These days between places like The Container Store or Amazon, you can find many ways to creatively store precious items.  

Make Piles 

Separate the piles into keep, throw away, and donate. If your loved one is having trouble sorting items into these piles, you can include a maybe pile that you can revisit once you separate everything else. This will help your loved one feel in control instead of being pressured in the moment. 

Get Rid of Items That Could be Dangerous 

If your loved one has limited mobility and needs assistance balancing, they must have a clear pathway for their safety. They will also likely need your help throwing away items they cannot reach. Items such as: 

  • Expired food items 
  • Broken furniture 
  • Old medicine 
  • Broken dishes, including pots and pans 
  • Broken appliances  
  • Rugs you deem a trip hazard 
  • Unused wires or plugs for electronics 
  • Any damaged items lying around that you know will never be fixed 

Throw Away Duplicate Items 

Many people buy duplicate items because they misplaced an item, or maybe the item was on sale, and they like it more than the one they have at home. Whatever the reason, these duplicate items add up in each room. For example: 

  • Bathroom: Your aging loved one could have many towels, rugs, and toiletries they do not need. 
  • Office: Notebooks, scissors, pens, stationery – All these items could take up valuable space. 
  • Kitchen: Over the years, it is likely your aging loved one has collected numerous dishes, coffee mugs, silverware, etc. These duplicated items could generously be donated to a local mission. 
  • Closet: Many ladies and some men love to have a variety of clothes. There is nothing wrong with that unless many of their clothes are almost exact replicas of each other. This could include accessories as well. 

Put Items Where They Belong in the Home 

Try to ensure that every item has a place it belongs. Silverware should go in the drawer in the kitchen. Books should be on a bookshelf. A coat should be hung in the coat closet. The list could go on and on. The quickest way for a house to get in disarray is when items are strewn about the house instead of in their rightful places.

What is a wheelchair porch lift? 

A porch lift is similar to a vertical platform lift. A porch lift is a machine used to elevate a wheelchair from one level to another. The difference between a porch lift and a vertical platform lift is that a porch lift is usually found outside and gives users access to a deck or porch.

The lift can travel a short distance vertically, and then it may travel a few feet horizontally. You can find them battery-operated or with a motor that powers the platform up and down. If it is battery operated, it has a lever, and if it is motorized, you can go up and down with the push of a button.

Porch lifts are space efficient

Porch lifts generally require a 5’ by 5’ area regardless of how high it rises. The Americans with Disabilities Act has guidelines set in place for wheelchair ramps. The guidelines help builders determine a good reference point from ramp slope and length. The guidelines specify that every inch of a rise requires a foot of ramp length. So, most people save ample space by installing a porch lift versus a wheelchair ramp.  

With a wheelchair ramp, there is also more maintenance and cleaning. Every structure requires maintenance, even the porch lift, yet with a wheelchair ramp, you will need to factor in the weather and its elements more.  

Porch lifts are a great safety solution
