KNOXVILLE, TN., APRIL 20, 2022 – Next Day Access Knoxville and Harmar Mobility partner with Make-A-Wish East Tennessee to provide a customized Helix curved stairlift for Madison Peak, a local child in Knoxville, TN.

Next Day Access Knoxville is a local provider of accessibility and mobility products in Knoxville and the surrounding areas. They sell, deliver, and install mobility & accessibility equipment, such as wheelchair ramps, stairlifts, grab bars, and other products to keep the aging population, individuals with disabilities, and veterans safe in their homes.

Harmar Mobility is a leading manufacturer of stairlifts, vehicle lifts, and platform lifts. Make-A-Wish East Tennessee reached out to Harmar with a stairlift request for Madison. Harmar partnered with their local dealer, Next Day Access Knoxville, to evaluate the home to determine the measurements and installation costs for the curved stairlift.

Curved stairlifts can often be more costly because they are built and customized to the exact dimensions of the resident’s staircase. As a result, Next Day Access Knoxville and Harmar Mobility partnered to donate the stairlift and installation to the Peak family home, allowing Make-A-Wish East Tennessee to grant more wish requests to families with the allocated funds.

“All of us at Make-A-Wish East Tennessee are so glad and grateful for the partnership between Harmar, Next Day Access, and our chapter to provide a life-changing wish to Madison and her family.” said Christina Sayer, Director of Wish Granting for Make-A-Wish East Tennessee. “Because of their generosity, they have not only granted Madison’s wish, but have also given us the opportunity to grant more wishes in our community.”

Next Day Access Colorado Springs, a leading provider of accessibility and mobility solutions for residences and commercial businesses, becomes the state of Colorado’s exclusive dealer for UP Stairlift.

They sell, deliver, and install mobility equipment, such as wheelchair ramps, stair lifts, grab bars, walk-in showers, and other products to keep the aging population, individuals with disabilities, and veterans safe at home.

UP Stairlift is one of the brands offered at Next Day Access Colorado Springs. Unlike other manufacturers, UP Stairlift’s design allows the stairlift to be quickly customized for permanent or temporary solutions, whether straight or curved.

“Curved stair lifts can take weeks to manufacture,” said David Beiner, CEO of Next Day Access Colorado Springs. “But with UP Stairlift’s unique feature of being able to customize a stairlift to be curved or straight while at a customer’s home is an advantage for customers and us. As their exclusive dealer for the state of Colorado, we can reach more customers efficiently with a shorter turn-around rate.”

The partnership with Next Day Access Colorado Springs and UP Stairlift will allow more customers to have a safe solution to help people age in place or people with limited mobility go up or down the stairs independently.

Your social life does not have to stop if you have mobility concerns. The new app Sociability makes sure anyone with accessibility concerns has a list of detailed and accurate places to enjoy. The goal of the platform is to mitigate potential issues by listing the accessibility of venues on the app.

How the Sociability App Works

An inaccessible venue limits opportunities and social engagement. When you know a venue is accessible, it instills confidence. The Sociability app makes getting detailed, accurate, and reliable venue information easy.

Users log in to the app, and a map pops up. They have the option of clicking orange arrows to show nearby places rated on the app by other users or use the search bar to type in their desired destination. Once they find the destination on the app, they can read what other users experienced when they visited the venue

Who Benefits from Sociability

Sociability is one of the only crowdsourced accessibility platforms. People with mobility and accessibility concerns built the app for themselves and others like them. The app gives accessibility information for popular and fun local shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, and more.

What Makes Sociability Special

One of the best things Sociability is you do not receive generic information about venues but instead get a detailed breakdown. For example, a popular local bar on the app serving customers for years has accessibility information from a former patron. This patron was delighted by the food and service, but they would not recommend the venue to wheelchair users during busy hours. The tightly packed and crowded aisles made maneuverability difficult in a wheelchair. Reviews like this can help you decide whether to visit a venue or not.

Why Sociability is Important

Sociability also aims to help businesses understand the barriers in their business that may prevent people with disabilities from visiting. The hope is communities evolve to include everyone and to be accessible to everyone. Apps like this help create a level of inclusivity for patrons.

At Next Day Access, we are thankful our customers can access this app and its unique resources. We are also available to meet your accessibility needs by offering an assortment of mobility equipment. Whether you are looking for a new wheelchair, would like to rent a lift chair, or need grab bars in the bathroom, we can help with all those needs and more. Contact us today for a free in-home assessment.

On July 26th, 2021, at an event to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the signing of the “Americans with Disabilities Act,” Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared that the State of Maryland would yearly celebrate July as Disability Culture and Achievements Month.

“Today, the State of Maryland is taking another step forward to ensure that all of our citizens are confident in their ability to contribute to their communities and assured that all value those contributions,” said Governor Hogan. “Every July, we will promote and enhance events and activities all across the state focused on disability pride, culture, and contributions to society.”

During the event, the governor also honored Becca Meyers; Meyers, 26, was born deaf due to Usher syndrome and has gradually lost her vision. Despite her disability, she amazed fans when she went on to win six medals as a Paralympic swimmer: three gold medals and a silver in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and a silver and bronze at the 2012 London Games.

Ms. Meyer’s dealt with an unimaginable frustration this year when she had to withdraw from the Paralympics games because officials would not allow her to bring her Personal Care Assistant, due to Covid mandates.

When interviewed, Becca said, “It makes me upset. I am a person with a disability. And I do not feel safe going to Tokyo without my PCA. I should not have to fear my safety in Tokyo because I have been denied my PCA. How can an organization that prides itself on celebrating athletes with disabilities do this to an athlete with a disability?”

Meyer’s father, who is equally as upset as his daughter, said, “he reckons the blame falls solely on the laps of the USOPC. We contacted the Maryland secretary of state, Becca deserved to be able to compete.”

“While we are all so disappointed for her, we are unbelievably proud of Becca for having the courage to speak up and speak out against this injustice,” said Governor Hogan. “Becca, you are an inspiration to so many people—including me.”

At Next Day Access, we are inspired by Ms. Beyer’s bravery. We think it is important to share these stories of resilience in the face of adversity. Every time you are faced with fear, exhaustion, sadness, or anger, we hope you will remember that you have people on your side that care.

We are proud to offer accessibility and mobility equipment for your home. We specialize in product installation, free in-home consultations, and custom products. Contact us for all your accessibly and mobility needs.

Next Day Access also takes pride in being responsible members of the communities they serve.

John King defines his title as Owner/President of the Next Day Access franchise in Nashville, Tennessee, or as he jokingly referred to himself, “Your Majesty.”  It’s obvious from the get-go, this is going to be a fun interview.  As if running a company isn’t hard enough, John has dueling careers. He also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the National Guard, of which he has been in service since 1994. He’s an Artillery Battalion Commander when duty calls; otherwise, you’ll find him at the head of the table at Next Day Access.

In his previous career role, King worked in banking with a focus on investing. He felt his job in the banking world just wasn’t satisfying.  As he was considering a career change, his grandparents became ill and disabled. King helped them navigate finding the right disability equipment and realized how overwhelming the process is.

John knew he wanted to own his own business but wanted something that would be fulfilling. Aiding his grandparents changed his career trajectory completely. King felt his true calling was with Next Day Access. You can tell from speaking with him, even briefly, that he is a cheerful guy with a kind heart.  Maybe it’s the military in him, but it’s clear that he is service-oriented and loves to help others.

Next Day Access is the ideal career for service-minded and compassionate people like King. He recounted a story of a client that was so happy, once he received his mobility equipment, he could finally retrieve his mail, after a long two years, a feat most take for granted. Helping people achieve their independence means the world to King.

When asked why his company is so successful, King’s response was, “you have to be a problem solver, a multi-tasker, and you have to love people.” He believes his years in the military helped him to excel in those areas. Yet, the thing he primarily appreciates from his years in the service is that being in the guard has made him, “a people-person.”  In the National Guard, your fellow soldiers are from all walks of life, and you develop the aptitude to get along with and find ways to help everyone.”

He also credits his amazing team at Next Day Access. Before hiring a new team member, King says he looks for problem solvers with a compassionate heart. They also must be capable of constantly learning and retaining knowledge, as accessibility products are always evolving.

For anyone wanting to join Next Day Access as a franchise owner or a team member, King says there are three ways to succeed in this career. It’s to be ready for every day to be different, love and enjoy people, and treat customers like family.
